Do I have to change my plan or can I simply add the $30 data plan to my current family plan? Sorry if this question has been asked or is overtly simplistic, please forgive.

Unless there is something unusual about your existing plan, you should be able to add the $30 data plan and whatever texting plan you want - $5/200, $15/1500 or $10/unlimited.

So the $30 data plan does not cover texting?

Ok, so if we have an existing plan, we have more options than $30 unlimited or paying per text msg? Just asking, because new iPhone plans only give you those 2 options.

As far as I know, you have all of the normal texting plan options. I don't know why AT&T makes there charts so confusing. They were very similar with the original iPhone also.
