I've heard the rumors of an iPad Air upgrade this fall. Is there any chance that Apple would lower the prize of the current Air in advance of the new Pad coming soon? I'd like to purchase one--or should I really wait for the upgrade???

There's 2 things you need to consider.
1) if you need it now, and will put it to important use (school, work, etc) then buy it now.
2) if you feel like you don't need it now, and would like to have the newest piece of technology, then buy it. I'd consider this option if you don't NEED it right now.
Buy now if you need it, or wait if you don't.
Apple will drop the price when the new iPad Air becomes available.

If you can wait then wait, but if you really need it now, then the current iPad Air shall be plenty.
