I used to be able to purchase/rent movies on Amazon Prime directly from my 2018 Apple 4K TV. For the last couple of months that doesn't seem to be allowed any more. I can purchase on my Mac and then watch on the Apple TV, though no problem.

I have one-clicked purchase turned on, as it has always been. I've removed the Amazon Prime app and re-installed. I restarted the apple TV. I can watch all the free Prime movies and series just fine. I just can't make a purchase directly from the app, even though I'm signed into my Prime account on the Apple TV's installed Amazon Prime app anymore.

Did the app purchase policy change recently?

It's been like that for me as well. Not only on the Amazon Prime Video app on Apple TV, but also the Prime Video app on my iPhone. If I want to purchase or rent movies I literally have to go to amazon.com. It's always been like that for me.

The Redbox app is like that too for their OnDemand movies. You cannot purchase from their app. Doesn't make sense.

I never saw the Amazon Prime app on the ATV allowing purchases directly. I think it is the same for Vudu. That is the same as buying ebooks directly on your iPhone/iPad from the Kindle or Nook apps, you can't do it.
