Purchasing through Apple, trade in through another outlet?

I purchased an iPhone 7 Plus directly through Apple.com because all other outlet's sites were acting unstable at the time the pre-orders opened up. At this point, the pre-orders directly from Apple will arrive to me the soonest. What are my options for trading in my used iPhone 5 for the highest price? Anybody have any experience buying directly through Apple and trading in to T-Mobile? I am on the T-Mobile Simple Choice plan.
