'Push' Mac Mail.App Emails

Hi Guys.

Is there a way to 'push' your emails to your mac, just like in iOS?

Having the mail app open all the time to receive emails is annoying. And im sure many like me, close down apps when theyre not in the foreground.

This is something simple an iPhone can do, surely our macs can too?
