Just wondering what Apple gets out of providing the push notification systems for the iPhone apps. I'm guessing for this push facility, just like the rest of mobileme, apple would require the user to have a mobile me subscription.

Does anyone have any insight into this?

Push notification will be available to developers that need to notify the users with an update/notificaiton. This service wont be available until September or October.

However, this has nothing to do with MobileMe since this only involves 3rd party apps. If you have .Mac/MobileMe, you will automatically get push notifications for your email/calendar etc.
