Hey everyone,

My iphone 3GS have a problem that I can't find the answer to.
Details:
Iphone 3GS 16 GB
Version 3.1.3
Baseband 5.12.01
Not jailbroken or unlocked
Using through WIFI only

Carrier = AT&T based on the SIM card but I have no service.
I bought this phone as factory sealed and it came with a SIM card inside.
- Is this considered to be activated? even if it says No service?

First two days I used the phone, I would receive push notifications from email and apps (every 15 minute for email) even when the phone is in sleep mode.
And now, I don't receive any push notification until I turn on the phone out of sleep mode. And then it tells me my email/app notifications.

Is this normal? It seems like my phone doesn't inform me when its in sleep mode anymore when I get new emails. I tried testing it by sending myself an email and waiting 15 minutes - 20 minutes and I never received a vibrate or sound from my phone.

Another question:
I am planning to update the version to 4.1 tomorrow to jailbreak it and I have a few concerns. (Through pwnage tool)

Once I upgrade to 4.1, the phone will be unactivated once again right?
If I already have the SIM card supplied with the phone, do I just connect to iTunes after I update to activate it?

How do I know when it is activated?

When I jailbreak the phone (w/ pwnage tool), do I have to take out the SIM card first?

Thanks again for the help!

edit: Push notifications for email seems to be working only if the phone is not in sleep mode.
