I'm currently testing the push notifications feature with a developer test version of AIM and I gotta say it's not too bad.
In AIM settings you set your sign in status to stay online for x amount of time (all the way up to 24 hrs) after exiting the app. You start the app, sign in, then exit the app.
Once you receive an IM, your notified by both a pop-up and the classic AIM IM sound. Tap the reply button in the pop-up to start the app and reply. Pretty straight forward.
Wish list:
1. Easy access sign out button (currently have to go into preferences).
2. Quick access notifications center/app in the iPhone OS. What happens when you have multiple notifications from multiple apps? I could see that the current setup may get a little messy.
