Push notifications with Facebook app & Email address question

With the Facebook app, if you set up push notifications, does your login email for Facebook need to be one that is set up on your iPhone?

With the FB for Blackberry app, in order to get push notifications the address you used for them had to be one configured on your Blackberry. Is this the case for the iPhone?
