Hi All

Seems like an annual question I ask... but one thing that's annoyed me for years on iOS is that on the iPhone and iPad, an email remains flagged as unread until you open the mail app.

This is really frustrating... and its only a case of a needing a push notification of the read receipt. This works on MacOS - so you can open an email on your iPhone, and immediately the message is marked as read on the iMac... it just doesn't work the other way round.

This seems like a relatively straightforward thing and Ive no idea why it hasn't been implemented yet.

So, anyone with iOS13... does this work? (I'm assuming not :-( )

Still not fixed on ios13. It blows my mind this still does not work. It’s only an issue with the stock mail app. I use the gmail app for work and it works fine.

I know I probably don't fully appreciate the technicalities of this.... but there surely has to be a really serious reason why this has never been implemented.

It seems like such an obvious thing to fix.

If I am working on my Mac, then I deal with emails there - not on my phone - and it really is irritating to have to open the mail app purely to clear down all those unread email notifications.

Could not agree more. There is a thread about current things still not a feature on ios13 and this was my complaint.

It has bothered me for years. I’ve tried 3rd party apps, which all work, but I actually like the default mail app. I may have to try a few 3rd party apps again.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. It has always worked for me and everyone else I know.”

That’s the type of replies I get every time I complain about it.

This makes no sense.

I have researched this a number of times, and on Apple's support pages it specifically says that read push notifications are not supported in the Mail app on iOS.

So, i don't think anyone else could possibly have said it works! (they are probably using another mail app).

I’m still amazed by this. But at this point I assume it’ll never get implemented. Wasn’t it documented at one point that it was by design? I dunno. For the short stretch I tried (wanted to) use iCloud for my primary email it drove me insane.

Anyway - on a positive note - iOS 13 now has support for multiple colour flags in the stock mail app, and they correspond / sync properly with the coloured flags in the macOS mail app.

I don’t use iCloud mail a lot, so I didn’t even know this was an issue, but I’ve just tried it and I agree...it’s quite annoying.
