pushfix {iPhone Modding repo} giving me someone else's push notifications? creepy....

so my push notifications from facebook and AIM stoppped working a while ago, but i kinda just ignored it. didn't really feel like i "needed" them.....but i figured i'd try one of these apps and maybe get them working again.

i tried installing the one from the BeYouriPhone repo first, and it started giving me push notifications, in other languages....that was odd. but i figured that since all their descriptions in cydia are all in other languages, maybe that's made JUST for that other language, whatever. so i tried installing the one from the iPhone Modding repo, and now it's giving me push notifications from "AIM Free" and facebook, in english, but from people i don't know. and they don't correspond to my AIM or facebook accounts....here's some pics:


i have NO idea who these people are, and they aren't friends of mine on facebook LoL

EDIT: and aparently, i'm still getting them in different languages also....

has anyone else had this problem? i really want my push notifications back, but it's really creepy getting someone else's......also, i'm not getting MINE, just other people's.....

Yeah I got that too for a long time. It was very annoying, i downloaded Popup Blocker to completely block the push notifications... But I ended up fixing it.
I'm not positive if I'm right on this, but I'm pretty sure its because things like Push Fix, are just a general fix for any iphone, it's not device specific, that is why you end up getting other peoples push notifications.
Go uninstall Push Fix, or whatever you have installed, and install Push Doctor.

Push Doctor is device specific, and it will fix your push notifications completely.

That hapened when I updated Facebook, it was crazy. I was confused like crazy. I don't remember what I did, I think I reinstalled it or it just went away. You can try those solutions for a while. If it doesn't work we'll try something else.

Phones that were not activated using an official-carrier SIM cannot get notifications because they have not been assigned a notification certificate by Apple's server. As far as I know, all push fixes simply install someone else' certificate on your phone, which works fine as long as more than one person isn't trying to use the same push-enabled app with the same certificate. Then each person will receive the other person's push notifications as well as their own.

I bought my iphone from best buy with a 2 year at&t contract and a sim. Its legit....thats interesting though....

Then under no circumstances should you have installed PushFix. "PushFix" is not a generic tool to fix any problem you might have with push notifications. It is only for hacktivated phones on non-official carriers, and it only fixes the problem of such phones not having a valid push notification certificate.

Why on earth would you install a package without having any idea what it did?

This is like buying a random part to put on your car hoping it will "fix it" -- a new muffler may be advertised as fixing noise problems, and it will fix your car's noise problem if it is caused by a faulty muffler. But it will do nothing if that roar is caused by a bad wheel bearing.

Installing random packages whose function you clearly have no idea of, whatever their name, with no attempts at diagnosing your problem is incredibly foolish and is a surefire way to mess up your phone even more than it already is (as, indeed, you did).

i would love to install pushdoctor, should i first uninstall pushfix or pushdoctor would overwrite it?

also, are there any potential issues with pushdoctor, i am on 3.1.2 untethered jb and very cautious about installing any apps as i do not want to restore and lose jb/ul.. thanks in advance.

I had similar problems as you do. I installed pushfix even though I did not hacktivate my phone. Kept giving me random push messages.

You need to uninstall pushfix first.

dang, i unistalled pushfix and now while adding repository http://www.cmdshft.ipwn.me/apt/ i am getting following errors:

subprocess bzip2 returned an error

gpg error


any ideas how to fix this?
