via ethernet?

Is that all it takes to transfer files from a PC to a mac?

NOTE: Having sharing options enabled on both machines.

Not really sure what you're trying to ask. Are you connecting machines over a network using a ethernet cord, or are you trying to connect two machines directly with an ethernet cord?

Ethernet cable

OK, then you'll need a specific kind of ethernet cable known as a ethernet crossover cable. Then on Windows set the folders you want to move stuff from to be shared. Then on your Mac in Finder go under Go > Connect to Server, then you'll enter the IP for the Windows machine or the name of the Windows machine and then connect. You should be able to do normal drag and drop from there.

Edit: Just read on one page that the machines may be smart enough that it won't need a crossover cable so go ahead and try whatever ethernet cable you have available.
