put subtitle for a DVD film?

I have puchased DVD to iPhone converter for MAc and Windows.I have a query regarding putting "subtitles" for a DVD conversion where the DVD film is mainly spoken in English but has bits which are in another language and subtitles ONLY appear when the language is spoken.

eg The Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise is set mainly in Japan and has some bits where people are talking in Japanese and subtitles ONLY appear for those bits in the film. I want to replicate this in my DVD conversion without putting subtitles on through the whole film. My program can’t deal with it?Any suggestions about other third party apps?

If you purchased it then you got ripped off. Handbrake does everything you could ask for, and can even optimize videos for many different devices, including the iPhone, many people here use it and recommend it...and it's totally free.
