Put subtitles to a DVD movie when play ???

hi, by example when you open a .avi on vlc you can attach subtitles... great! but! I hate dont .avi and compress formats... I have a collection of original japanse movies that dont have any subtitles but I download some in some pages, my question is why I can play with vlc and attach subtitles too like an avi? or I do better my question ANY APP THAT DO IT THAT??

I found one called "srtViewer" loads the subtitles in a window on the movie... good but any app that really load the movie with the subtitles... ?????
