I've got an old Sony external firewire CD-R/RW, model CRX1600L. Is it possible to take one of the DVD+-RW's that they sell on Newegg and put it in that case?

I've got the old drive out of the case, but I didn't want to buy something and then not have it work.

Thanks for the help!

you bet

just as the title says - you bet!
i'm not familiar with your source for a replacement drive so i can't say one of theirs will work for sure. obviously try and get one with mac drivers, but don't be affraid to step outside the box. many don't openly offer drivers/support for mac os, but there is a nifty little program out there called 'patchburn' - google it and you should be able to get to their site. it installs drivers that will work with many devices, but understand it can be a little hit and miss. all you can do is try. just don't be fooled into believeing that only apple branded hardware will work.
enjoy your new drive!
