Putting a hard-drive (running osx) in a different MacBook

Is it possible to install OSx on a macbook (new hard drive) and then to take that hard drive and put it in a another MacBook ?

The two macbooks are the exact same

If the HDD contains a Mac OS X version that is at least the version the MacBook it will be put in has been released with, then it will work.

I'm not sure i understood your answer.

Here's the situation.
My brother and i have identical Macbooks (white unibody late 2009) running Snow Leopard
His hard drive is dead.

I'm visiting him next weekend
So i bought a hard drive and i'm planning on putting it on my macbook to install Mac os (Lion) and some other apps (MS Office and a few other basics) and then putting it on his macbook next weekend.

You shouldn't have any problem helping your brother.

To clarify the earlier post:
Newer hardware requires newer drivers.
Versions of OSX that were released before new hardware will not have the newest drivers.

So as long as the version of OSX that you're trying to install is the same age (or younger) then the Mac, you should be fine.
