Putting included Final Cut content on an external drive

First off heres my setup: Macbook Pro 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM, 120GB Hard drive and a 500GB External Firewire 400 hard drive. A friend of mine recently gave me his copy of Final Cut Studio 2. Ive got 15GB left on my internal drive (25 is partitioned for Windows XP in boot camp, and 85(ish) for OS X Leopard) and want to put the 40GB or so of content on my external firewire drive. However, being that I use my external drive for my time machine back ups so Im not sure if that matters at all. When I go into the installer for the content, it doesnt allow me to select my external drive. So how do I go about doing this?
