Hi,

I have an external GPT formatted USB hard disk. It has two partitions, one for Time Machine and the other for data. Can I add another partition and somehow put the Lion installer in it so I can boot and install Lion from it? I have the App Store Lion install App.

This is the output of diskutil list:

Code:
/dev/disk2
   #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
   0: GUID_partition_scheme *500.1 GB disk2
   1: EFI 209.7 MB disk2s1
   2: Apple_CoreStorage 300.0 GB disk2s2
   3: Apple_Boot Boot OS X 134.2 MB disk2s3
   4: Apple_HFS Sarcophagus 199.6 GB disk2s4
/dev/disk3
   #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
   0: Apple_HFS Time Machine *299.7 GB disk3

Upon further research....

As I have chosen to encrypt my TM backups, the disk has now been taken over by Core Storage. This means I cannot resize/add partitions non-destructively. So I will re-convert it to non Core Storage volume then add another partition and restore it with the Install ESD.

That should keep me busy for a while...
