I already have Lion installed on my Mac. I only have one Mac. Also, I don't own Snow Leopard anymore, since I sold it.

Is there any way for me to download Lion within Lion and put it on an external FireWire drive, so I can boot from that drive in order to do a clean install of Lion on my Mac?

Yes, re-download Lion for the App Store, format the external drive with OS X Journaled and install Lion on the external.

If you just want to do a clean install of Lion, you can boot into the Lion recovery drive, format and re-install from there.
