Hola,

I'm checking that i could use a MacBook Pro with the lid closed if the base of the computer was on a vertical wall before I do something (potentially) stupid)
Is using it as described above generally contraindicated or fine?

(I haven't as yet got a MacBook Pro, for what it matters)

Just make sure you don't block the air vents that are under the screen hinges.
 
Yep, it's fine but make sure the Apple logo is upside down. The vents must be on top since heat rises.
