Puzzle game Yankai's Triangle was named Apple's App of the Week, making it free to download for the next seven days. This is the first time the game has been made available for free since it was released in November of 2016.

Yankai's Triangle is, as the name suggests, a puzzle game based on triangles. The idea is to tap on different colored triangles to rotate them into a triangle shape to solve puzzles. From the App Store Editors:
This deceptively simple puzzle game is pure Pythagorean pleasure. Rotating multicolored triangular puzzle pieces to snap them together with their mates is dead simple at first, but when layer after layer of triangles are in the mix, we truly come to respect the power of three. Bright hues and funny sound effects help seal the deal--you might even say it's very acute.
Yankai's Triangle features leaderboards, achievements, an option for colorblind players, a time-based scoring system, and no in-app purchases.

Yankai's Triangle can be downloaded from the App Store for free for the next seven days, after which a new App of the Week will be chosen. [Direct Link]

After watching that video all I can say is where is that new mind blowing emoji.

This game is awesome so far. Very creative music (if a bit creepy)and effects. It's different and I like it.

What we sure get every week for free is cynicism on here. You won't get an "A-list" game for free anytime soon, if ever, since the point is to have users discover a lesser-known app or game...
Go download that one, it's awesome, challenging and surprisingly addicting.

Apple Editors have "deceptively simple" as a cut and paste hot key.

The game is decent, but I am not a fan of the grainy effect on the whole screen.

It's been a while, but didn't Infinity Blade get a turn as FAOTW? And the sequel as well? I guess the question is what is A-List?

When Apple makes an app their "App of the Week" and offers it for free, does the app developer receive no income for their app during that time? Or does Apple pay them the 70% they would normally get for app downloads?
I also wondered this.

My guess is that the developer does get paid for the free purchase. I am not sure if it is the full 70%, or maybe a reduced amount, but they probably still get paid.

Several Q&As on Quora indicate the app developer isn't paid. This aligns with what I've read in the long past.

This is interesting. I wonder why a developer would even consider doing then.

Maybe free publicity for their app such as this article, or advertising revenue from ads in their app.

So I think at least some of the time it is promotional for a new version or product. For example, the game Framed was FAOTW several weeks ago and immediately after that v.2 of Framed was released (not for free, obviously). To me, this is just a terrific way to promote your new game!
