Puzzling Anker Cable Trouble

I have an Anker Powerline USB-C to USB-C cable that charges my MacBook Pro quickly and flawlessly but which does not work with my iPad Pro (and I haven't had any other problem with any other Apple cable charging the MacBook Pro). With the Powerline cable it cycles on and off every ten or twenty seconds (with the charging beep) and it does that also when I reverse the cable (not that that should make a difference but I was just curious).

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have any theories about what's going on. Thank you.
