'PWNS' and other acronyms?

Can someone please definitively explain to me what 'pwns' means?

I guess that it means 'owns' in some way or other, but the 'p' has me flummoxed.

It would be greaty if someone could fill me in on its meaning...

And while we are on the subject, does anyone have any other acronyms like these they are clueless about and need explained!
 
This would be a good place to start. Personally, when I'm all benevolent ruler of the world, I will kill them all.

You shouldn't believe everything you read. ;) Sometimes what's in Wikipedia is wrong but most of the time, it pwns.

Yeah, thanks for the tip bousozuku – I have a habit of taking everything I read as truth.

I read somewhere your username means 'custard of mountain monkey that sits in the breeze'? Are you telling me that I shouldn't believe that...?

Thats either a very excited (but poor) typist responding to something thats very good (imagine someone doing this--->!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but letting gotheshift button once in a while :rolleyes: ) or, as in this case, a piss take of that practice. Which is what you're more likely to see here on this site. Variations include:

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!1111!!!!oneoneone
OMGBYoBRSVP!!!!!1111!!!!VIPRIP ;)

The purposeful and intentional mispelling of words drives me mad.

"teh" is perhaps the oldest and most annoying.

After 15 minutes playing WoW, I am assured that everyone else typing while:
spinning rapidly in an old office chair​
slinging cheetos and mountain dew everywhere​
laughing hysterically and adding "zors" to every word they speak​
while banging fingers on the keyboard instead of neatly typing​

I am a very angry person.
