So this is how it went...

I passed out after doing a night of editing while in bed, and the next morning my powerbook was on the floor next to my bed. A 1 foot drop onto carpet doesnt seem to bad, but the powercord was attached, and this is a G4 so i don't have the luxery of those cool magnetic detachable cordes like they have now. Well the tip of the cord broke off into the DC-in bored so I couldn't charge the thing. I assumed that was the only problem since it wasnt a far fall.

I went out and got a new dc-in bored and installed it. after it had been charged up, i went to turn on the machine, and although you could hear it start up, the screen remained blank. After taking it apart and reassembling it to make sure i hadn't missed any connections, it still didn't work. Finally i realized the airport card had not been plugged in all the way, and after fixing that (and feeling like a major dork) i pressed power and it starts up!!! I couldn't have been happier to see that apple logo appear.

After using it for a day things were good... and then it happened... The screen suddenly went blank (or so i thought). I did a manual restart and it kicked back on as normal... Then a few min. later it did it again! This happened one more time before the apple logo no longer appeared at start up. then i realized that the computer was running once i turned it on, but the screen had gone so dim that i could barley see my desktop. I could see it was on but just barely.

Anyone know what could be wrong with it? I was reading that it could possibly be the Inverter or the back light, but from the forums everyone seems to have the problem of the screen just going blank completely. Why did it sort of work, and then just go dim?

I found a new LCD display for $200 and i know i could install it my self. but if anyone knows for certain that it is either the inverter or back light, would just replacing those parts be a better idea, or is it too much of a pain and i should just shell out the cash for a new display?
I'm just concerned there is something else wrong and I don't have cash to be waisting...
