One of QuickTime container's options is "Fast Start", which "enables users to watch the movie as it's being downloaded (long before the whole movie has been downloaded) from a standard web server."
Unfortunately, the container is not a universal standard, not even compatible with iPhone. If I export the clip as H.264, QuickTime waits for the entire video clip to download before letting the user play it. Strangely enough, other H.264 clients, including iPhone, lets you play the clip as it's being downloaded.
I realize I can use QuickTime's "export to web" feature to create versions for iPhone and desktop, but I prefer a single-file-solution. My other option is to export as Flash or other "fast start" friendly formats, but I prefer to stick with H.264. Any suggestions?
