title says it all. this is for a new 3gs on 3.1.3 not JBed? is it worth it or a waist of timwe?

for the spirit JB that is....

had an untethered JB, had to get the phone replaced. it was too late to back up the 3.1.2 with cydia. so then had a tethered JB but screwed up my calendar with SSH and after "fixing" the calendar with ifile...i was forced to restore >>> 3.1.3....

BTW
i lost my backup that i created before restoring. have you guys ever heard of itunes losing a backup folder?? i posted a separate thread, but no replies as of yet...

Did you change the name on the phone ?

so thats the problem. is there a solution?

have these files been overwritten? any way to undo that? i did a system restore (for windows xp) to before the time they were written, but that did not change the date in properties.

I'm amazed at the people doing this. I mean, how much easy can it be than Redsn0w or PwnageTool?

Spirit allows an untethered jailbreak even of new-bootrom devices. It is also the only jailbreak that works on a 3GS that's stuck at 3.1.3.

Spirit only works with a clean install, so the question should be...do I want to JB with Spirit ?

I don't think it has to be a 100% clean install. I believe it just has to not have been previously jailbroken with another tool. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I think all backups are saved in iTunes.
Go to the comments section of Spiritjb.
There was a discussion involving backups and restoring pictures to iPhone removed by Spirit. Perhaps you will find an answer there.

I know in the past I have fiddled around and once pulled up all the backups for my phone (even those under a different name) but I don't remember exactly how I did it.

You sir are correct. I tested this yesterday on a phone I had updated to 4.0 Beta 2 a little more than a week ago and then did a factory restore to 3.1.3 that day. Used it since and then used Spirit yesterday with no problems. Downloaded MyWi and other apps with no issues.

I think someone mentioned previously mentioned that a clean restore may be needed for people who used blackra1n and may be upgrading to this untethered jailbreak or 3.1.3 jailbreak.
