A friend wants me to put some little Flash animations onto DVD. QuickTime can convert them to streams well enough, and iMovie 3 will happily import .swf as well.
The problem is, these animations are set up with more or less random frame dimensions, and both the above tools seem to insist on squishing them into an NTSC frame, without letterboxing.
iMovie has a letterbox effect that looked promising to undo the damage, but it tuns out to be a simple crop rather than a proper unsquish.
So, the question would be, is there a way to get the above conversions to happen without the squishification using more or less basic tools?
This project wouldn't be worth investing in high-end software; most likely we'll take the sleazy way out and play out to a VCR then recapture, but really, can't QT do this itself?
