QT makes 1440x900 but iMovie adds blackballs to 1280x720

Sorry about the title but its the best I could come up with :)

I have a QT screen recording on my macbook air, which is created at 1440x900.

I need to do some editing so I used iMovie to delete some sections and then shared to a File 1280x720 because its what I need to upload at.

My final video is being rejected because I get black bars on the sides.

What are my options? :(
