QT Playback problems

Specs: 800MHZ G4 AGP- 768MB RAM - OSX 10.4 - QT 7.6

Symptom: When playing a QT Movie (WMV or MOV 640x480pxl + ), it studders, looks like 10fps, or maybe freeze at random and plays back randomly.
Question: How do I get it to play smoothly on my machine? Should I add more RAM? or is there something else?
