quake 4 servers?

okay well i got quake 4 yesterday love it everything went great my cd key works but when i click on the multiplayer it is never able to find any servers i even installed a q4max mod which didnt do anything except now i can actually start games but still not join them? any help with this and yes it is a legit copy

yea i have 1.4.2 are there any other mods for multiplayer on mac cause q4max is the only one i could find
