We are editing family video that is sourced from two different cameras... an HD camcorder that is shooting in 1080 and a Canon digital still camera that captures video at 720.

The still camera video is imported via iPhoto and then imported from there by iMovie. The camcorder (Canon Vixia) is imported directly into iMovie. The import size is 960x540 and the final product comprising clips from both sources is exported also at 960x540.

The camcorder video clip show beautifully and the ones from the still camera are heavily pixelated.. both in the iMovie previews and in the final iDVD published project.

What is happening to the still camera video? It is imported and exported at a smaller size.. so it seems like it all should be fine???

It sounds like you imported "Large" video instead of full res (Large is 960x540). If you want higher res, you have to import original resolution files from the camera. Also make sure your export using quicktime settings are right for highest quality (h.264, "Best" automatic quality and make sure to bump up your audio to a higher bitrate than the default 128kbps)
