I have a Quicktime movie file that I've imported into iMovie 08. It is 640 x 480 ratio and 256 MB in size. The quality is not super as it is standard def. rather than HD. After editing my video I tried exporting the video and no matter what format I used I always lost color quality and image quality. Colors are more muted and the picture is more fuzzy.
I first tried the "export movie" using the medium 640 x 480 which becomes a MPEG-4 file and the quality was poor. Next I've "export using QuickTime" and for the compression settings I tried H.264, DVCPRO50-NTSC, MPEG-4 with modifications to the compression quality and data rate. Still I have not gotten anything that is of the quality of my original clip.
Thinking that maybe it was a compression issue, I chose "none" for the compression and the result is a file still less clear and considerably larger in size. 7 GB (the original is 256MB!)
Can someone tell me why my clips as soon as they come into iMovie and are exported they drop considerably in resolution and quality? How can I prevent this? I want to burn some DVD in iDVD but I have to bring it through iMovie but I'm losing such quality.
Please help!
