Quality of imported video

I'm new to using digital video and have just imported some footage from my Sony DCR-TRV 50 into iMovie on my Powerbook. I find there's some kind of pixilated blurriness going on along the edges of things in the image. Is this due to my camera? Something with my powerbook settings or memory??
