Hi all,

Anyone know how to make all of Quark 6's key cuts to work. I think OSX overrides some of them.

The real bugbear is the style sheets (F11), which at the moment hides the windows currently open, so you can see the desktop quickly.

I know is System Preferences/Keyboard and Mouse, you can edit your own shortcuts, but I'm not familiar with the correct way to code this and haven't been able to do it right.

Anybody?

Cheers

Key Commands

Go to System Preferences > select Expose and then in the Keyboard area set the 'All windows' drop down menus to something else.

You can hold down Apple Key (Command), Option (Alt) and or Control keys while you viewing the Key drop down menu.

Once you've changed the keys to activate Expose the Quark key commands will function again.

Hope it helps.

If you find out how to change the Dock hide, let me know.

It currently conflicts with 'Step & Repeat' in Quark. :(

OSX also screws around with Tool Selection in Quark. Drives me batty. Ah well, QX is still my favorite page layout program. Been using it for 18 years now.

Quark

I use Quark every day. Have for 18 years as well.

And it SUCKS! Don't blame OSX for screwing up your key commands, blame Quark for not updating their crappy software to work properly in OSX.

Dock

System Prefs > Keyboard and Mouse
Click on 'Keyboard Shortcuts'

Then scroll down until you find Dock and disable the checkbox next to Hide / Show dock.

Step and repeat in QX6.X will then work as 'normal'.

Quark should have changed their command keys so that they didn't clash with standard Mac OS X command keys or let users change the key commands. There's quite a few annoying bugs in Quark 6.5 too.

Quick e.g.:
Select some type > use Paragraph Attributes (Apple-Shift-F) window, alter leading or anything else, press ok - now, is the type still selected?? Start re-selecting different type in the same box - oh, the display goes all screwy. You can't tell what's selected. You have to press F7 twice to 'refresh' the display. We pay for this software?

I've used Quark since version 3.0. And InDesign since version 1.0. I now use InDesign CS for all my personal client work but have to use Quark 6.5 when I'm freelancing.

Personally I think InDesign CS is much better than Quark XPress. Whenever I can, I use InDesign.
