Hey y'all...

I'm trying to export a gigantical QuarkXPress document and every time I do, it gets about 70 pages in and crashes. Any way to fix it?
I can print the 180-page document just fine, it just won't export to PDF in the File > Export > Layout as PDF...

I'm on a 1.83 C2D Intel mini with 1gig of RAM. The only other Mac at my disposal is a 1.5Ghz G4 PB, so that may not be too fruitful.

Hugs, love, etc.
Thanks in advance. :) <3

Ok.. I can export 1-75 just fine and 77-end works, too.
I try to export 76 by itself but no dice. Even as an .eps no worky.
Uhm... what? *scratches head*

Hi Katie

What's on page 76? Any particular illustrations? An imported PDF? Text in a different font? Some weirdness with boxes? Some funky transparency effects?

First thing I usually do when something like this happens is to select all the elements on the troublesome page with the item tool, copy them, paste them onto a new document to see if I can get something useful out of that.

If that doesn't work, then it's usually a process of elimination to find out what's unique to that page.

Do upgrade to 7.2 though at quark.com

I did that for about a day, then felt bad about it. I found it on CL, bought it on the cheap and went nuts.

Oh wow, good deal. :) After updating maybe try duplicating the document and then removing the 76th page and see what happens when you try and export it. If something still goes wrong then I'm stumped. I wonder if OS X's Print > Saves as PDF would have a different result, if that's even an option in Quark, I haven't used it in a while.

Also if you can export all the other pages, maybe try exporting just page 76 alone to see if that'll even work. If it does maybe you can join the PDFs together, although that sounds like even more trouble.

Good luck, let us know if you get it to work. :D

Possible postscript error?

Let try to find the culprit. First thing, a question: If you delete everything on the problematic page, can you now export your file as pdf?

If you also have Acrobat (and therefore Distiller) go into your Quark options and change the export to .pdf to actually export to postscript (.ps)

If it's printing fine then chances are it'll print to a .ps file ok.

Then you can distil the .ps file.
If there is a corruption in there somewhere, distiller will quit processing the postscript file and tell you the name of the image/text etc.. that has the problem.
