Hi.
I got an ADB hardware Dongle supposedly for QuarkXPress and I'm trying to launch some versions of the application that came installed on an old G3 beige desktop i recently bought.

So far I tried the QuarkXPress Passport 4 but it doesn't seem to recognize that any dongle is connected and gives me an #-42 error code.

Next is QuarkXPress 3.31which does launch but its saying that INposition is working still in demo mode.

The last one is QuarkXPress 4.1 Passport (k) which is a cracked version so I suppose it will ignore any dongle.

I read that QuarkXPress Passport is actually another program as QuarkXPress?

How can I find out for what version is that dongle?

QX3 didn't require a dongle. Instead, it had a special floppy disk with the activation code on it.

Do you have a copy of v2? If not, I can trawl through my archives and see if I have a copy.

No, i just looked in the "garden" and there are a 2.11 Version. I think it predates PowerPC?
My oldest mac to date is a 6320 Performer but that is PowerPC also I think?

I believe version three was offered in 68K and FAT versions. I've got the 68K version on my IIci. So, v2 does likely predate that.

As to XPress 4 and Passport. Essentially, Passport was the international version of XPress. So, yeah, two different apps. You couldn't use anything other than the language you purchased XPress 4 in with XPress 4. With Passport, if you wanted to change the language you could.

All of this was back when Quark dominated the market and was trapping and screwing it's customers with whatever they could get away with.

As far as 3 launching for you and the error you receive: That sounds like an XTension issue. As I do not recall XPress ever coming with an Impostiion XTension that's most likely a third party. Unless you are planning on imposing pages and sending to a RIP I don't think that's going to matter to you.

Thanks a lot. I'm reading more about it.
I will try it again.
If you can, try and get version 4 working. That was a major update and is the basis of every version after that. 4.0 introduced bezier tools, which means you can draw odd shapes. You can't do that in v3.
