Hello all,

I just flashed a Sapphire 4870 1GB video card successfully, only...

1- Quartz Extreme is not Supported
2- No screen saver, screen goes black when on screen saver
3- VCL player has no video
4- Screen flickering in Maya and slow in Mudbox
5- no VGA only DVi (both ports working)

etc, etc...

I'm hoping this is all due to Quartz Extreme not supported. I read there is the QE_CI issue with the 4890 and exotic 4870 card that have a patch. But can''t find anything for the 4870.

I'm running on mac pro 3.1 (2008), on OS X Leopard 10.5.8, only because Maya has bugs on Snow Leopard.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get Quartz Extreme supported? Could it be the ROM I used to flash?
ROM Revision: 113-B7710C-176
EFI Driver Version: 01.00.318

Some help!!

Thx, but can't find 10.5.7 drivers only 10.5.6, tried that and nothing. I will try Snow Leopard.

Stupid question but how do you open the .bin (original ROM) created in gpu-z? On mac it shows as zipped file but can't open with stuff it/expander and asks for program to open with on pc.

Nearly the same story as zenZen

Hi folks,
Successfully? flashed a Sapphire 4870 1GB with Zeus last weekend to replace 7300 in Mac Pro 1.1.
Model #100259-1GL

- No screen saver, screen goes black when on screen saver
- System doesn’t even register Quartz Extreme
- VCL player has audio only, no video
- Both DVI ports working
- Wakes from sleep
- When I try to open Final Cut it indicates I have 0 VRAM

Currently running SL 10.6.4. with graphics upgrade (downgraded from 10.6.5). I’ve run the appropriate QE_CI exotic card patch, and installed every remotely relevant kext file suggested in forums.

Still nothing!
I’ve been struggling with this every night since flash, got any ideas?

Progress!
Removed unused Nvidia 7300 from slot #3 and reinstalled 10.6, OpenGL now running out of the box. OpenGL broke when I ran 10.6.5 combo update; neither QE_CI exotic card patch or dualDVI extensions restored function. Anyone know if I can I make any more updates and still retain graphics?

There's a patch for 10.6.3 and some threads about the 10.6.5 upgrade. I think it's safer to stay with 10.6.3. I know next flash I'm going to stick closest to the Apple reference card. Ebay is actually a good reference, look at which models the sellers successful flashed and read the specs on what works (if they're honest) Good luck!

BTW I hate the fan noise on the Sapphire (100279-1GL) 4870.

Success!!!

10.6.0–10.6.3 graphics fully functional right out of the box. 10.6.4 & 10.6.5 enabled with Keita 1 patches. Was never able to get netkas QE_CI patches to work.
