Query about 0845 phone numbers (UK)

I'm looking to get an 0845 phone number. I already know the number I want and have found it at one supplier. I'm not sure about how these numbers are allocated. Is it like choosing a domain name where you can register with anyone you like, or do certain providers buy up numbers which they then sell on? If I want the number, but not that provider, is it just tough luck? Can I buy from one provider then change in the future?

Can't find this info. Searching Google seems to bring up only providers, Wikipedia gives me information about what the number is, but I know that already.

Can anyone help, or point me in the right direction? Thanks.

'Fraid not. Had a thumb through and it's just about directory enquiries, making complaints, etc. Thanks, though.

If all else fails, I'll just have to keep trolling through the providers to see who's got what; it just seems odd not to be able to find out.
