Hi. I've been attempting to get a little more life out of my 2011 27” iMac that's had the GPU die (again). It died in 2015 and was replaced by Apple but that one has now bitten the dust too. I got approx just over 4 yrs out of each card (AMD Radeon 6970M 2GB).

Anyway, I've torn it down, baked the GPU and applied fresh thermal paste to both the GPU and CPU but had an accident trying to get the logic board back in - I've knocked off one of the components on the rear side (under the CPU die).

I was wondering if anyone knew what this one does (did)? It's marked on the board as C5702. I've attached a couple of pictures showing which one I'm referring to. I was curious if it was important.

My thanks in advance.

Since its next to the CPU, it probably regulates the voltage for your processor. It might turn on but will cause instability in the system and might damage other components, so i highly recommend replacing it. Thanks for your reply. I struggled soldering the component back directly but managed to solder wires to each foot of it and then solder the other ends of the wires to the board. The Mac is up and running now and seems to be working ok at this point - just got to see how it fares over more extended use.
