Quesion about unlocking my phone

I'm in the UK and put in a request to O2 (my network provider) to unlock my iPhone 4. They texted me today saying the request has been processed and that I need to put a non O2 sim in the phone and sync it with Itunes.

I'm planning on selling the phone in the morning and the guy wants it unlocked. I don't currently have access to a micro sim.

If I wipe the phone and sell it to him, when he plugs it into Itunes, will it unlock?
