Question about 12" PB w/ superdrive fan

I think I've detected four levels of fan noise:
1. No fan
2. Quiet fan
3. Loud fan
4. Jet fan

My 12" PB w/ superdrive seems to be at 2 most of the time. Will it ever run without a fan? Does anyone know if they ever run with no fan at all?

I just got one too and I swear I have heard the first three. But not the fourth. I guess its cause I just opened it.

I heard "jet fan" when I was running the apple hardware test. So you've used it with no fan at all? What kind of load were you putting on the computer? Do you know what the CPU temp was?

My observation has been that the fan is definitely on most of the time....but when I am doing some photoshop work and heavy statistical computations, it can get very loud...after about a hour of being truned on, the cpu gets pretty hot I guess....like right now it is 112F, was on for almost 2 hrs....and all I did was surf the web......
