I own a 2009 Macbook Pro which is dual core 3.06 and whenever I'm watching to blu ray quality movies on VLC, which are around 30 mbit/sec, 130% cpu is mostly active and the fans kick up. If I'm watching with headphones fine, but otherwise the fans actually mess up my movie. I'm wondering if the current MBP's can play movies with less noise. Since they are quad core and a movie like that would at most use 100-120% cpu on the current gen MBP's, I'm hoping they get less hot.

What is your experience on the subject?

Judging from the many, many threads on this topic, I'd say you can expect the same experience with the 2011 models:
