I am looking at buying the DELL 30" 3007WFP-HC (2560 x 1600) simply because it is much cheaper than the Apple Cinema display and I believe it uses the same panel.

My question is what happens when I want to do things that require a smaller resolution.

For instance watching Bluray movies at 1080P or playing games that don't support that high of a res (ex 1920 x 1200).

I have heard this monitor does not have a hardware scaler, so I guess it is not possible to run it in a 1920 x 1200 resolution.

Dell lists the following capable resolutions:
VESA, 1280 x 800 - 50 kHz Horizontal, 60.0 Hz Vertical
VESA, 2560 x 1600 (digital) - 99 kHz Horizontal, 60 Hz Vertical

Will things look funny if I try and play a Bluray or play games at a lower res? A big part of me getting this monitor is for these multimedia activities.

Depending on the source material, things may look "fuzzy" compared to things in native resolution.

How bad it is will depend at least partially on the media..

also, what will you be connecting it to?
