Thinking back on the iPhone 4, when it was increased to a 2x retina display, most images in apps appeared pixelated and poor quality until the images were updated to support the higher resolution.

I know Apple is doing more scaling this time around, but for images I don't fully understand how this will work.

So my question is, will 3x have the same issue, where images will appear more fuzzy until developers actually update their apps with higher resolution pictures, or is it a moot point with the more advanced GPU/OS?
