question about 4.0.1 and restoring

I have a 3gs using 4.0.1, and it will not come out of restore mode. I want to restore it so it has 4.0.1 so i can re-unlock it. I'm wondering what i need to do exactly to do this. Im worried that if i restore the normal way with itunes that it might upgrade me away from 4.0.1
