Long story short, I used my inlaws' upgrade to order an iPhone 5S to replace my iPhone 5. We live in different towns. When the 5S gets delivered to me, can I just stick my sim card in it from my iPhone 5 and have it work on my line without messing up the iPhone 4 that is currently on their line? The plan is to give my wife my iPhone 5, and they will get her iPhone 5.

Then, when it comes time to activate their iPhone 5, I could just stick the sim that came in from the iPhone 5S in the iPhone 5 and turn it on and it should activate, right?

These are all on Verizon, by the way.

Not sure how the whole sim card thing works as this is the first time I've had to deal with it. Is the activation locked to the sim card or to the phone?

I just don't want to have it accidentally activate on my sim card and then have to go to Verizon to get everything situated. And I'd rather not disrupt the service on their current phone until they're ready to get the new phone.

Hope all this make sense. Thanks for the help.
