I have an iPhone 4 (bought in mid 2011 when it was still THE iPhone).

I am about to give it to my mom when I'll switch to a 5S.

However, I have the front button issue (sometimes you have to try more than twice to get it to work), I also feel like the battery isn't as good as before.

I am about to go to a Genius Bar and argue about the legal warranty (in Quebec) so that they "repair" my phone.

From what I understand they will not repair it and give it back, but they will simply swap it.

If so, let's say that they still refuse to give me a free repair, should I then go for a battery replacement, assuming that they will swap the phone anyway and that the new one won't have the button issue, because a battery replacement is cheaper than a phone repair.

Is that a safe assumption or have they started to simply change battery in store ? (since the iPhone 4 is so easy to open, i'm worried they might, leaving me with the same button problem as before and having to pay again to repair it.)

Apple stores swap the batteries out. It's only if they have no spares they then change the whole phone.
