Question About Apple's Online Store

I've noticed when you go to www.apple.com/retail and when you click on a particular store, for example in my case it'd be Massachusetts "Shop Online @ Cambridgeside"...

It's not look inventory is actually from the store, and there no store pick up, what is the point of having a separate online store for every retail store in the country?

I would really like to know this also. It looks like an apple.com/store but with the store name written on the top almost like the EDU area where the school is written on top.

There must be some reason...
