Question about Apps

My iPhone is not jailbroken, and likely never will be.

I have noticed on iTunes I can basically add applications I have downloaded from the App store, could I then .torrent some apps' drop them into this, and sync install them on my iPhone or does it not work like that?

It would "work" but the apps wouldn't run. You need to replace a file on the iPhone for those to work and the only way to do that is to jailbreak so you can get access to the filesystem.
