I'd like to have icons on my desktop and certain folders arranged in the order I place them but "aligned to grid". How do I do that?

Question about arranging files

Arrange them as you want and then View > Clean Up. The icons should snap to the nearest grid location.
That's great, thanks. I was always afraid to hit "Clean Up" because I thought it had to do with deleting things!
